W. N. SHAW also maintains several strategic partnerships with core raw material developers to ensure a constant exchange of technologies and requirements to ensure cutting edge development and flexibility for our current and future demands.

The W. N. SHAW Research and Development lab is complete with wide range tools, test molds, and analytical equipment that is used for both the development and quality assurance of all of our products.

Analytical Services

W. N. SHAW’ s developmental and analytical laboratory is equipped with state of the art instrumentation in the areas of chromatography, spectroscopy , thermal analysis , and polymer analysis. We use a combination of instruments, analytical techniques and methods to provide our customers with technical support in a timely and responsive manner. A listing of analytical instruments, techniques, and methods used to provide this support is given below:

Analytical Instrumentation

W. N. SHAW analytical instrumentation includes a Fourier transfer infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), a gas chromatograph (GC), a gas chromatograph / mass spectrometer (GC / MS) , a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) , and an inductively coupled plasma spectrometer (ICP).

Wet Chemical Techniques and Methods

W. N. SHAW utilizes a combination of various liquid extraction methods, silica gel liquid chromatography, alumina liquid chromatograph, and a variety of other wet chemical methods. These wet chemical methods and techniques are used individually to measure specific sample analysis / components or in various combinations to separate the components of a sample. These components may then be further analyzed if necessary.

Biological Testing

W. N. SHAW utilizes microbiological methods to screen water-based products for bacteria and fungus. The presence of bacteria or fungus can degrade water-based products and negatively alter their performance.

W. N. SHAW’s technical capabilities are utilized for two equally important purposes. The first being new product development and quality control. The second is to determine whether the compositions of our products are normal or whether chemical contamination is present in order to aid in problem-solving and customer support.
